We advocate for responsible growth, preserving Tyrone's character, and ensuring that residents have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect our community.
The Tyrone Alliance for Responsible Growth is a grassroots movement formed in response to Microsoft's data center project in Tyrone, Georgia. This development, known as Project Rita, was "approved" in March 2024 without full transparency from our local leaders. There is also a lack of clarity and record keeping from the Tyrone Planning Commission on how or why the allowable size for building structures in the Business Technology Park zoning was amended from 200,000 sq. ft. in 2022 to 300,000 sq. ft in 2023. We strongly believe that this Tyrone property location is not appropriate for a data center for reasons including but not limited to: (a) It is surrounded by residential properties (b) It sits atop a most significant groundwater recharge area, as mapped by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (c) Schools, churches, and other sensitive populations are in close proximity (d) It will require more buildout of power infrastructure, affecting many citizens and their properties in the path.
We are an open partnership of Tyrone residents, HOAs, surrounding communities, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations united to preserve and protect the quality of life and natural resources of Tyrone. One of the best ways to help the Tyrone Alliance for Responsible Growth is by spreading the word and letting our Town officials hear our concerns.
We need both concerned citizens and experts to volunteer to speak out at Tyrone Town Council meetings, held the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. Other ways to help include: wearing a t-shirt, posting signs on your property, printing/handing out flyers, and engaging with our local leaders. All of these actions can further spread the word throughout our community on issues affecting everyone.
